Mourinho fired after United’s humiliating thrash

Manchester United has sacked its manager Jose Mourinho after Liverpool FC thrashed the Red Devils on Sunday for the first time in over five years in Premier League.

Liverpool thrashed Man United 3-1 and scaled up back to the top of the table.

Mourinho was hired in May 2016. It is also reported he was axed over a transfer spend of around £400m on 11 players that the club insist were all his choice. There was also growing discontent from fans with Mourinho at helm.

In two full seasons at Old Trafford, Mourinho won the Europa League and League Cup (2016-17) before finishing second in the Premier League last season and reaching the FA Cup final

The team will be under its former footballer Michael Carrick as caretaker manager before an interim manager is appointed by the end of the week.

United kicked off the league season poorly, having own once in six matches and drawing during that sequence with struggling Southampton and Crystal Palace.

The club issued the statement stating; “Manchester United announces that manager José Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect”

It added; “The club would like to thank José for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future. A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”
