In Chogoria area, Tharaka nithi County, an elderly woman aged 71 is fighting for her life after her nanny kicked her on her upper abdominal thus rapturing her gastric during a drunken rage, causing a life-threatening gastric rupture.
Mary Tibitibi, a resident of Kamra Village was brutally assaulted on the afternoon of June 17, 2026, when her house help, Gloria Karendi, returned home heavily intoxicated around 1:00 p.m.
According to a police report filed at Chogoria Police Station (OB No. 20/23/06/2026), Tibitibi questioned Karendi about her state, the suspect turned violent, picked a quarrel, and delivered a forceful kick to the elderly woman’s upper abdominal region.
The impact left Tibitibi writhing in severe pain. She was rushed the following day, June 18, to St. Ann Mission Hospital in Igoji, where she was admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU). Medical examinations revealed the horrifying extent of the injury.
Doctors confirmed through X-ray that she had suffered a gastric rupture, also known as stomach perforation directly caused by blunt force trauma.
Surgeons performed emergency surgery on the frail grandmother, but she remains hospitalized in a serious condition, battling for her life.
A close relative, reported the incident to police on June 23. Efforts are now underway to apprehend Karendi, who fled the scene immediately after the attack.
The Officer Commanding Chogoria Police Station is overseeing the investigation.
