A Nairobi man has been charged with assaulting a neighbor for burning garbage near his car.

David Njoroge Karega was accused of assaulting Beatrice Nyokabi on October 8, at Nairobi’s Safari Park Gardens within Kasarani Sub-County.

The accused who is a hydrologist said to be working at the ministry of water in Nairobi County was today arraigned before the Makadara Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi.

Karege was said to have dislocated Nyokabi’s finger on the material day.

Police stated that Karega had parked his vehicle in an open area where Nyokabi had lit the fire and watched the burning trash.

It was then when Karega in the company of his wife approached her, fuming with rage, attacked and assaulted her.

According to court records Karega is seen using his palm to knock out Nyokabi’s head who retreated back having sensed danger.

But he was not done. He allegedly followed and forcefully pushed her from the back, making her tumble and roll down as she accused Nyokabi of trying to burn his vehicle which was parked in the same compound.

In the process, it is said that the complainant was left with a dislocated finger, and some bruises on her knees forcing her to report the case at Kasarani police station.

Karega was arrested but he denied beating Nyokabi. He asked the court for leniency saying that he had only Sh 10,000 since he is the breadwinner and his wife was sick.

The court however maintained that the cash bail of 50,000 was sufficient. The matter shall be heard on April 14, 2023.
