Police in Las Vegas want Juventus forward Cristian Ronaldo to give a DNA sample for investigations into rape allegations.
The player now fighting assault claim by Kathryn Mayorga got warrants from the court in Italy.
He however denies the allegations alleged to have happened at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.
Ronaldo’s lawyer Peter S. Christiansen said that it was just a standard request.
The football player has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in Las Vegas in 2009 was consensual in nature, so it is not surprising that DNA would be present, nor that the police would make this very standard request as part of their investigation,” said Christiansen’s statement.
Mayorga is claimed to have brokered an out-of-court settlement with Ronaldo where he allegedly paid her USD 375,000 on account of never to go public with the allegations.
It is claimed that her lawyers say that the non-disclosure agreement was not anchored in law.
But Ronaldo’s lawyer insists that getting to an agreement does not mean that he had confessed being guilty.
The 33-year-old moved to Juventus from Real Madrid for £99.2m in July.
He has won the Ballon d’Or – awarded to the world’s best footballer – in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
The player is worth more than USD 1 billion. He has a lifetime Nike contract said to be worth upward of $1 billion.
He remains the most popular athlete in the world with 322 million social media followers.
