A youthful man who allegedly snatched a mobile phone along Jogoo road was torched by members of the public on Friday morning.

Witnesses said the incident happened around St.Anne’s secondary school just before Uhuru market within Makakdara-Sub County.

The incident caused heavy traffic snarl up in the area as large crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the suspect as he shouted for help as fire lit on him using old tyres and sticks razed.

“He snatched a mobile phone from a passenger inside matatu and attempted to flee but a boda-boda rider from behind caught up with him and pushed the suspect to the ground,” a traffic police officer who was the scene said.

“When he fell down, irate members of the public arrived and attacked him before he was burned, the mobile phone was recovered and two knives were found the scene,” the officer added.

The stretch between Church Army all the way to Hamza area has been described to be notorious with mobile phone snatchers targeting passengers in matatus when there is traffic jam.

“Such cases are common along the stretch, the goons are from Eastleihg and Shauri-Moyo areas. Many cases are reported daily at Makongeni and Jogoo road police station but we have never seen much efforts from the cops,” a trader at Uhuru market said,

Other notorious areas are Rabia road and Outering road between Mutarakwa road all the way Dandora roundabout commonly known as Rounda.

Here youthful thugs rely motorbikes to snatch from pedestrians then zoom off towards Dandora and Kiambiu slums.

Not long ago, the gang snatched a mobile phone from a Bishop who was making a call not far from his church just after Total petrol station along Outering road.
