Federation of Evangelical and Indigenous Christian Churches of Kenya Bishop Samuel Njririri chairman has responded to calls by Ida Odinga that churches should be regulated.

On Sunday 30th, Ida, the spouse of ODM leader Raila Odinga urged the NCCK to regulate Churches in Kenya for there to be consistency and relevance in messaging.

Ida’s remarks however did not sit well with some Kenyans, mostly pastors who rebuked her saying that she was targeting some churches.

Following the heated debate online, Ida was on Monday morning forced to make a public apology and accused the media of blowing her remarks about training of preachers out of context.

“I sincerely apologize for the discomfort caused as I meant no harm to any person,” read the statement in part.

However Bishop Njiriri says Ida should repent instead of making an apology citing that her statements were uncalled for.

“In God there are no small churches, even the Bible says where two or three are gathered in my name I’m there”, he said.

Pointing out “The fight is not new but those who have tried did not succeed in my view, churches, can regulate itself”

The leader Stewards Revival Pentecostal Church explained that the constitution says God is Supreme and that NCCK is not the only body that regulates the churches.

“Ida spoke what was in her heart, why are they creating many political parties and bars yet they don’t want churches. We know who is against contribution in churches and the statements speaks a lot” he added

“She should repent and not apologize because the two are not the same. It is sad to hate the church. We are now unedifying the spirit of antichrist”, he stated

Atheists in Kenya have expressed their support of Ida Odinga who over the weekend insisted that churches should be regulated.

“We support the remarks made by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida Odinga on 30th January 2022 asking the NCCK to abolish churches that are not run by trained theologians,” read the statement in part.
