The Nairobi West ospital launches helicopter ambulance, says its milestone during emergencies

The Nairobi West Hospital has unveiled an air evacuation solution to serve patients within Kenya and neighbouring countries during emergencies.

This will allow patients to land on the top of the facility and be attended to in as short a time.

Dr Andrew Gachie, the hospital Chief Medical officer said the move is aimed at making air evacuation available and affordable to the majority of Kenyans.

He explained that the services will also be available to patients within a radius of 600 kilometres, which means that someone can be evacuated from Tanzania and a bit of Uganda.

“It is not just for Nairobi West but hospitals because their patients can land here and as they stabilize they can be moved, it is Kenyan facility only that it is based her”, he explained

He added the launch is a major milestone to improve survival of critically ill or injured patients without extra cost.

Gachie said solutions that had been there previously used fixed crafts which is costly to patients.

Gilbert Kibe Director General of Kenya Civil Aviation Authority termed as a major milestone in medical care in Kenya, to have an ultramodern Helipad at a health facilities rooftop.

“This is not only a proud moment for the hospital but also to the entire aviation fraternity as we endeavor to facilitate the access to emergency and critical medical care to all patients in need through the air evacuation services” he said
