A new drug unveiled by scientists might give millions of autistic adults and children in the world a better chance to live a social life.

Science Transnational Medicine journal in latest publication reveals that the medicine currently undergoing test has improved social skills of those with the disorder. Two studies were carried out on the drug called balovaptan.

In the first study, Scientists at Stanford found out that regulating vasopressin’s (a homone) path in animals could change their character traits.

The drug is a huge milestone in battle against autism seeing as at the moment there is no licensed medication that is able to sort social behaviors of autistic patients and also help them remember repetitive instructions.

The trial was carried out on 223 men with mild Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They were given an oral daily dose of drug called balovaptan for 12 weeks.

“There are 960,000 registered autistic children in Kenya.”

After, their social lives, acquired or adaptive behavior and daily life skills are said to have immensely improved.

Their parents reported that they  showed improved communication skills and also interacted better with other children. The drug will be tested in a final stage before it is licensed as an ASD drug.

Autism has no cure. However research indkcates that social therapy and communication coaching  in early age often come in handy in improving the sufferers’, lives. There are 960,000 children recorded by health ministry in Kenya.
