A Nairobi woman was arrested and arraigned over claims that she stole bread, milk, and chocolate from the supermarket.
Yvonne Wambui according to court details committed the offense on March 14 at Muhindi Mweusi supermarket.
Wambui was also accused of handling stolen goods on the same day.
The prosecution told the trial magistrate that the accused checked into the supermarket and picked up the said items and tried to leave without paying for them.
For this reason, she was stopped by security at the entrance to inquire if she had paid for the items.
In response, Wambui said that she had paid for the items and was asked for receipts but she failed to produce them forcing the guard to escort her to the counter where some staff denied having served her.
The matter was further compounded after it emerged from the CCTV footage that she had not paid as she told the management that she was broke forcing them to alert the police.
The officers whisked her away before she was arraigned in court where she admitted stealing. The court directed that Wambui will be sentenced this week.
