Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja appears to have started the new year (2023) on a sweet note.
Yesterday, the County boss accompanied the Head of State to inspect the Galana Kulalu project in Tana-River and Kilifi Counties.
For the first time, Sakaja was seen aboard the Kenya Air Force military helicopter and like anyone else he seemed overjoyed.
Sakaja posted, “President William Samoei Ruto took me along today to inspect the Galana Kulalu to see what we can achieve for a food secure Kenya,”.
“Glad he’s revoked earlier plans of subdivision of the land to ensure the entire land is utilized in the best way to ensure food security for our country,” the Governor added.
The Head of State was joined by Coast Region Governors Mungaro, Abdulswamad and Issa Timamy.
Judging from his mood, the Governor seems to have mended his ways with the top bosses who were said to be unhappy over some key decisions in the City towards the end of 2022.
In December , Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had revealed that he played a bigger role in convincing voters from Mount Kenya to support Governor Sakaja.
The spat between the DP and Sakaja was linked to a recent move by the County to evict Matatus operating a long distance route to the Green Park Terminus.
“Some decisions that he makes and are likely to spoil businesses in Nairobi, we must sit with him and agree on them,” Gachagua stated.
“We don’t want to go in speed like displacing matatus, that is not possible, I don’t want to disturb the traders.” The DP added.
By the same token, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Ward Reps recently accused Governor Sakaja of being a lone ranger and favouring the Azimoi Coalition despite not supporting his bid.
Experts now argue that Sakaja could be working on tight rope for survival tactics but only time will tell if he will play his cards well to deliver for the City residents.
