Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed why the founder of Neno Evangelism centre, pastor James Maina Ng’ang’a was not arrested after slapping a member of his church.

This was after a video of Ng’ng’a giving the worshiper a hot slap for sleeping in church during a sermon.

In a shocking revelation in Senate on November 5, 2025 during senate grilling Murkomen confessed that many Kenyans are being mistreated by preachers.

The CS explained that such rogue preachers claim to impart the Holy Spirit, but they remain silent instead of reporting the cases to the police for prosecution

The CS was responding to an inquiry by the Senate on the outcome of an investigation where the lead preacher of Neno Evangelism Centre, James Ng’ang’a, was captured slapping a worshiper in April this year.

In response, Murkomen said it had been established that the alleged incident involving the preacher occurred during a night vigil prayer on April 18, 2025.

He told the senators that the incident was neither reported at the nearby Parliament Police Station nor at any other station.

“Consequently, no investigations are currently going on as no formal complaint was made by the person who was slapped,” the CS stated.

“We are witnessing a lot of such cases in religious institutions where people are being whipped, some are being slapped, and some are being sat on or washed by purported pastors as part of the impartation of the Holy Spirit.”

The Senate was told that the abuses are of great concern to the public.

“The only thing is, because of the extent of loyalty or brainwashing, very few people are willing to come out and record statements, and when they don’t do that, very little can be done by the police,” Murkomen said.

Even so, he noted that the act of mistreating worshipers in the name of imparting the Holy Spirit was offensive to justice and morality, but little can be done if it is not properly recorded.
