If you have been to Donholm via Jogoo or Outering road, then you have seen an iconic tower that resembles famous fimbo ya Nyayo.
A lot of tales have been shared about the tower with many ending up as just guesworks, but did you know that the tower could be older than your grandfather?
The tall, mushroom-shaped structure is a colonial-era landmark built around the early 1900s by the landowner and architect James Kerr Watson.
He owned the vast 4,600-acre Doonholm dairy farm, which stretched from the current City Stadium area to what is now Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The tower was essentially designed to supply water to his expansive 4,600-acre “Doonholm” dairy farm and the surrounding areas.
The farm, named after an estate in his home of Glasgow, Scotland.
Watson, a British architect from Scotland, also built the road through his farm to transport milk to the city, which is known today as Jogoo Road .
