Hustlers shocked as Sakaja’s cabinet nominees reveal they’re millionaires

The vetting process for the County Executive Committees (CEC’s) for Nairobi County was conducted yesterday.

Governor Johnson Sakaja’s ten-member cabinet had been stopped from undergoing the exercise after a dissenting group moved to court saying the list of the committee members was not inclusive.

The vetting exposed the financial muscle of some of the members who told the Nairobi County Assembly’s Committee on Appointments that they were multi-millionaires.

Stephen Gathuita Mwangi who has been nominated CES for Build Environment and Urban Planning revealed that his net worth is Sh600 million from assets in form of survey company and rental properties.

“Most of my money, however, comes from my survey company and rentals that I invested in,” he told the panel.

He said if approved, he’ll tackle land-grabbing in the city, claiming politicians were notorious for unlawful occupation of people’s property.

On the issue of buildings collapsing due to poor workmanship and use of substandard equipment, the urban planning CEC nominee said he will prioritize civic education on the importance of seeking approvals before embarking on construction.

Charles Kerich who has been nominated for the Finance docket was put to task to explain how the county will boost nose-diving revenue.

Kerich told the committee that there is a need to control money that is going out and mop up all the avenues for collections. He estimated his worth at Sh120 million in immovable and movable assets.

Michael Gumo the nominee for Innovation and Digital Economy was at pains explaining that his nomination was not politically influenced. He is the son to veteran politician and former cabinet minister Fred Gumo.

Gumo who revealed that his net worth is about Sh50 million said he will use his experience in ICT to solve some problems like revenue collections if appointed.

Brian Mulama, CEC nominee for Education Brian told the panel he will partner with donors to boost areas where the government is unable to support and that he will ensure timely disbursement of bursaries.

“I will ensure equitable share of bursary funds to all wards because all children deserve equal opportunities,” he said.

Mobility and Works nominee Patrick Mbogo was asked to explain why the Green Park terminus project appears to have failed yet the county had spent billions.

On his net worth, Mbogo said he has amassed about Sh38 million from his businesses and has about Sh600,000 cash in his account.

Ibrahim Auma Nyangoya the nominee for Boroughs Administration and personnel revealed that he is worth Sh98 million. He said he will use his experience to take services closer to the city residents.

Others were 29-year-old Suzanne Silantoi nominee for inclusivity docket who revealed that she is worth Sh36 million.

While Rosemary Kariuki, nominee for Business and Hustler Opportunities told the vetting panel that her networth is about Sh70 million.
