Kenya Premier League (KPL) managers have denied Mt Kenya United Football Club use of stadiums in Kenya saying their stadiums are desolate.

Mt Kenya United FC, formerly Nakumatt Football Club has been forced to play at Machakos stadium.

The club was acquired by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Embakasi East MP aspirant Francis Mureithi, but word has it also Deputy President William Ruto has shares in it.

KPL said they cannot approve venue in Mt Kenya region because “They are sub-standard”.

It is however the Jubilee government that promised to construct modern stadiums across counties but that has remained a pipe dream.

On Sunday derby between Sofapaka versus Mt Kenya United FC at Machakos County ended 2-1.

Kuria and Mureithi acquired the club from the tumbling retail chain Nakumatt Holdings in April 2018 but transaction was completed last month.

The club was struggling. In this year’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Nakumatt FC finished 16th, second last beating only Wazito FC and Thika United Club that tailed. Out of 34 matches, Nakumatt scored 37 points while the top was Gor Mahia with 75 points.

At one time Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho reportedly wanted to buy Nakumatt FC but it’s unclear why it flopped.
