Origin of shipping lines : Maersk, cosco & Hapag-Lloyd

Many people don't know is the origin of these shipping lines.

They are all over Kenyan roads with bold names on their containers; from Mombasa, Nairobi, Kisumu all the way to Malaba border.

When they are offloaded from gigantic ships, the containers are ladened on long distance trucks ready to cruise Kenyan highways to various destinations carrying different cargo.

Some of the common names on the containers are Maersk, Cosco, CMA-CGM among others, but what many people don’t know is the origin of these shipping lines. Take look

Maersk – A.P. Moller-Maersk is a Danish multinational business conglomerate headquartered in Copenhagen. Founded in 1904, it operates the world’s largest container shipping company by fleet size and cargo capacity.

Hapag-Lloyd – Is a German international transportation and logistics company, currently ranking as the fifth-largest container liner shipping company in the world by total TEU capacit.

CMA CGM – originated in Marseille, France, in 1978 when Lebanese-French businessman Jacques SaadĂ© launched a single maritime shipping line between Marseille and Beirut.

msc– Mediterranean Shipping Company was founded by Italian entrepreneur Gianluigi Aponte and his wife Rafaela Aponte-Diamant in Italy in 1970.

Cosco– (China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited) originates from China. Headquartered in Shanghai, it is a state-owned multinational conglomerate and one of the largest shipping and logistics companies in the world.

Evergreen – Evergreen Marine Corporation originates from Taiwan, where it was founded on September 1, 1968, by Dr. Yung-Fa Chang. Headquartered in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, the global carrier began operations with just a single second-hand cargo vessel and has since grown into one of the largest container shipping companies in the world.
