The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Erick Omondi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) today, 5th June 2026.

Detectives from DCI Central, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Bureau (CRIB) Nairobi Region, arrested Omondi following credible intelligence linking him to criminal offences allegedly committed under the guise of the recent fuel-related protests in Nairobi.

He is currently at the Nairobi Region DCI Headquarters, where he is recording a statement and undergoing processing for arraignment in court.

The arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into the incidents. Several other suspects linked to the same cases were previously arrested and arraigned in court on 18 May 2026.

In a statement, the DCI emphasized that while the Constitution of Kenya guarantees the right to peaceful assembly, picketing, and demonstration, these rights must be exercised responsibly and within the bounds of the law.

“The DCI wishes to remind the public that any criminal acts committed under the pretext of protests, demonstrations, or civic action will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
