It has now emerged that tens of bodies that were buried in mass grave in Kericho County were from Nyamira.
The new twist follows the discovery of mass grave at Makaburini area in Kericho County on March 21, 2026.
This was after two grave diggers in the Makaburini area, Kericho County made a report that they were tasked to bury 13 mutilated bodies that were brought in by strangers in Toyota Landcruiser earlier this week.
However, some court documents have resurfaced showing that the bodies were unclaimed and had been lying in Kisii morgues for about two years.
For this reason, a court order was sought for the bodies to be disposed of in the nearby Cemetery in Kericho County.
In a sworn affidavit before Nyamira Magistrates Court, David Makori, a public health officer attached to Nyamira Teaching and Refferal Hospital, asked the court to issue and order for the bodies to be disposed.
He told the court that the bodies had stayed in NTRH Mortuary for over two years causing unnecessary congestion, spread of infections, limiting the capacity to hold new admissions, creating back log and smell in the morgue.
“The said thirteen (13) bodies be interred at the nearest public cemetery (Kericho),” the public health officer told the court in Nyamira
According to the officer efforts to trace the relatives, including advertising on community radio station, were uncessful, forcing the hospital to seek disposal orders.
