The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has clarified current temperatures in Kenya are normal.
Their response comes following viral reports that Kenya is experiencing an unusual heatwave.
“We wish to to clarify that the heat wave alert currently circulating on social media is not an official communication from KMD. Members of the public are urged to ignore it,” KMD said
According to the weatherman, January to March are typically the hottest months in Kenya citing that warmer-than-average temperatures currently being experienced are normal for this period and consistent with the forecast.
At the same time, the weatherman gave an a forecast from January 27 to February 2, 2026 as follows:
- Predominantly sunny and dry conditions are expected across most parts of the country.
- Isolated light rainfall may occur in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Coastal region, and south-eastern lowlands.
Temperature Outlook
- Daytime (maximum) temperatures above 30°C: Coastal region, North-eastern & North-western Kenya, parts of south-eastern lowlands, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya.
- Night-time (minimum) temperatures below 10°C: Some parts of Central Highlands, North & Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and around Mt. Kilimanjaro.
