Idda Odinga has responded two days after being appointed as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on January 23, 2026, by President William Ruto.
On January 25, 2026, during a church service, Idda said she was thankful for the appointment.
“Thank you very much to those who have congratulated me on this new appointment,” Idda said
Adding that, “To me, it is an honour, and I’m happy about it. However, lately, I have been going through some challenges. I lost my husband about three months ago,”
According to several reports online, the annual income for ambassadors is broadly between Sh1.8 million and Sh4.8 million, depending on position and allowances.
A Permanent Representative, also known as a Permanent Representative to the United Nations, is a diplomat who represents their country at the United Nations.
Permanent Representatives are appointed by their government to serve as the official representative and spokesperson for their country in UN-related matters.
Her roles include representing the country at the United Nations in all official meetings, assemblies, and forums.
And serving as the official spokesperson and voice of the government on UN-related matters and participate in multilateral diplomacy, helping shape international policies and agreements among others.
