Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has promised to convene a crisis meeting on Monday following public uproar over appointments at the Social Health Authority (SHA).
The controversy arose after the recent appointment of SHA county operations managers.
Its was claimed that out of 47 managers, the majority were reportedly drawn from just two communities, according to a list circulating in the public domain, placing the Ministry under intense scrutiny.
“Every Kenyan will be given an opportunity by the Social Health Authority based on competence and qualifications,” Duale said on January 25, 2026.
He added that public service guidelines would be followed to ensure all regions, communities, religions, and genders are given equal opportunity.
Despite the criticism, the CS defended his role, emphasising that he does not interfere with how SHA or Kenyatta National Hospital recruits staff, citing that both institutions have their own boards and management structures.
“But the concerns of Kenyans will be addressed. As the minister, the buck stops with me,” Duale said.
He added: “On Monday, I will call both the board and the management of the SHA to take me through the appointments.”
