Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has been awarded the title of International Eminent Peace Ambassador.

The recognition is courtesy of International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), a global organization with special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

In a formal award letter dated December 2025, the association said Mr Mosiria had been found “worthy to bestow” the prestigious title in recognition of his humanitarian work and sustained efforts to improve the lives of Kenyans.

The ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, January 11, 2026, in Nairobi.

IAWPA, which describes itself as a world-class organization promoting peace, social justice and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals across the UN’s 193 member states, holds affiliations with several United Nations–linked bodies.

They include the United Nations Association of the United States of America and civil society working groups engaged on issues such as nuclear disarmament and sustainable development.

According to the letter, the award places Mr Mosiria in the role of an international diplomat expected to participate in United Nations conferences globally, with the aim of promoting peace, social justice and sustainable development while strengthening the presence of the international community in Kenya.

He is also designated as the first recipient of the Eminent Peace Ambassador award for the association’s 2026 class in Kenya.

The award will be conferred by the association’s World Peace President, Ambassador Per Stafsen of Denmark, alongside King Ambassador Eugine Mahlangu of South Africa, the group’s Africa president.

The ceremony will also mark the official launch of the “Peace Begins With” campaign in Kenya, a grassroots initiative intended to promote peace across counties.

The recognition comes at a politically sensitive moment in Mr Mosiria’s public service career.

In recent months, he was demoted at City Hall amid internal administrative changes within the Nairobi City County government, a move that drew public attention and debate over the treatment of senior county officials.

County authorities did not publicly link the demotion to misconduct, and Mr Mosiria has continued to maintain a visible public profile.

Throughout his tenure in county government, Mr Mosiria has been associated with initiatives targeting vulnerable populations, including support programs for low-income urban residents, engagement with youth groups and advocacy around access to basic services.

His work has often placed him at the center of community-level interventions, particularly in informal settlements where residents face persistent challenges related to housing, sanitation and livelihoods.

In its citation, the International Association of World Peace Advocates said Mr Mosiria’s humanitarian gestures predated his current office and reflected “determined effort in making lives better for all.”

The organization framed the award as both recognition of past service and an expectation of future international engagement.

While such titles are largely honorary, they often serve as platforms for public officials to expand their influence in international advocacy spaces.

For Mr Mosiria, the award adds a global dimension to a career that has recently faced local turbulence, underscoring the contrast between his standing abroad and the shifting dynamics within Nairobi’s county administration.
