In an unexpected turn of events that left many reeling, the vibrant life of Festus Amimo, the celebrated head of Mayienga FM, ended abruptly.
According to his wife Rozy Amimo, her husband left home that morning, healthy and hearty, only to collapse in a Nairobi CBD hotel and later declared dead, sending a shockwave that defied belief.
Amidst the profound grief, his widow, Rozy Amimo, offered a poignant glimpse into the soul of the man she loved.
Speaking at her magnificent home, in the presence of mourners among them friends, colleagues and regional leaders, Rozy painted a portrait of a man driven by an insatiable zest for life and an unwavering determination to achieve his dreams.
Festus was a force of nature, relentlessly pursuing his goals with singular focus; if he wanted something, he struggled until it was his.
She acknowledged that their beautiful village home, once a far-off dream, stands as a testament to his ambition and their shared gratitude to God.
“You can see the kind of house he has in the village. We never dreamt that we should own such a house and we are thankful to God always,”
Rozy humorously recalled his tireless dedication, the phone perpetually in hand, a constant “office” coordinating unseen endeavors, even sparking playful arguments.
“Sometimes we used to fight in the house because he was always on the phone,” she said. “You don’t know what this phone does for me, but one day you will know what this phone does for me. This is my office, you don’t know what I’m coordinating,” She explained.
Through the veil of sorrow, Rozy tells of a hard-won lesson learnt, ‘living for today’, for even future plans can be overtaken.
“He had plans for December and 2026 going forward but God had his own plans. I have learnt that we should take one day at a time,” she mourned.
Amimo’s passing on sent shock waves to entire media fraternity, moreso, the Kenya Broadcast Corporation (KBC)where he worked as the head of Radio, Mayienga Fm and a celebrated host.
