It was in the evening after work, when the business woman Monica Wanja, now deceased, arrived home in company of his house manager. Her husband  Francis Njoroge,75, was reciting rosary prayers within the living room.

The manager headed to the kitchen to prepare dinner leaving the couple, with Wanja aged 74 taking a rest on the chair while the husband now linked with her death carried on with the prayers.

Shortly after, the manager served the couple with food  but Njoroge (suspect) requested to have his dinner later. Wanja and her manager dinned together, unknown to her that it was her last supper.

According to the affidavit filed before Makadara law courts principal magistrate, hon Jane Mbati, the duo lived in the main house while the manager had a separate room in the servants quarters

“After dinning together with the deceased, the helper cleared the table before retiring to her servants quarters leaving the couple in their main house. Everything seemed well until 9:30 pm when the house manager heard Wanja screaming, while calling for help.

Monica quickly responded but unfortunately found the door to the main house was locked from inside. She immediately sought assistance from one of the deceased tenants one who stays a few meters within the compound.

“They tried to access the house by attempting to break in but they could not since the suspect was armed with a dagger and had threatened to harm them.” The affidavit reads in part.

The duo then rushed to Githurai police station, to report the matter to police who responded. They ordered the suspect to open the door and arrested him. At the time he had a blood stained dagger.

Wanja’s distress cries had been silenced. Police went to where the deceased was and found her body lying in one of the bedrooms floor unresponsive with blood on the floor. She had been stabbed and cut all over her body.

She was confirmed dead and her body was moved to KUTTRH awaiting post mortem. According to the manager, the alleged dagger which was missing for five days, was being used as a kitchen knife, was the one which was recovered from the suspect.

Additionally, “the children had been mourning the tragic end of their mother and as a result, they are undergoing counselling with some who are working abroad being expected to travel back to the country.” Reads the affidavit.

Njoroge told hon. Mbati that he was embroiled in a  domestic dispute, and just like that his wife died.

The suspect urged the court to have him remanded at the Muthaiga police station stating that he was not comfortable being held at the Kasarani police station a prayer which was not granted.

Hon Mbati granted the investigating officer 14 days to comprehensively conclude investigations.
