Man Arrested For Spending 47 Days In Utalii Hotel And Failing To Pay For Services

A man has been arrested and arraigned in court over claims that he failed to pay hotel bills worth Sh108,570.

Douglas Muchiri Wambugu is reported that on April 27 at Utalii Hotel obtained the credit by falsely pretending to be in a position to pay for the services rendered to him by the hotel.

He was arraigned before Makadara court to face obtaining credit contrary to the law.

According to court details Wambugu checked into the hotel in company of a woman claiming that he would spend the night going for Sh6,500 but later on he made a transaction of Sh10,000.

The following day, he was requested to leave but he told the management that he was planning to stay for a long time in the hotel.

It is stated that he requested to be moved to another room going for Sh4,000 per night since he female friend had left.

According to court details the man ended up staying in the hotel for 47 days bringing up the total amount he had spent to Sh268,070.

Wambugu reportedly managed to pay Sh163,500 leaving a balance of Sh108,570.

At that point, it is stated that it was claimed that that he was unable to pay the remaining balance thus he was arrested and handed over to police.

In court, the accused denied the charges and was set free on Sh50,000 cash bail and surety bail of Sh100,000. The case will be heard on November 20, 2024.
