In Kisumu, a 37 years old man who had been charged for forcing his way on the infant has been sent behind bars for the rest of his life after the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubts.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) successfully secured a life imprisonment sentence against a nine-month-old infant.
During trial, the court heard that the convict defiled an infant on July 19, 2025 in Seme Sub-County, Kisumu County, when the child’s mother had stepped out to seek medical assistance from her mother-in-law.
The ODPP stated that the Principal Magistrate of the Kombewa Law Courts, Hon. Jocelyn Kimetto, handed down the sentence after the accused was found guilty of defiling the infant contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2006.
The case was prosecuted by the state counsel Principal Prosecution Counsel, Ms. Caroline Kiptum. The prosecution called four witnesses, including a clinician who confirmed that the infant had suffered a fractured thigh bone and visible lacerations that proved defilement.
The convict has been granted 14 days to appeal the sentence.
