Four pistols and 300 mobile phones have been recovered by police in Nairobi in an ongoing crackdown to flush out criminals in the city.

At the same time eight suspects were arrested in connection to the robbery activities following an outcry by Nairobi residents over runaway crime rate.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said some of the affected area were Spring Valley, South C, Parklands and Runda.

“The operation started from the recovery of phones from the receivers (those who were in possession of stolen phones) within Nairobi and it led us to the robbers,” Mohamud stated

Adding, “We were able to neutralize those groups, neutralize one suspect who was fatally shot in Joska and we arrested eight others and we were able to recover four pistols,”

It was revealed that some of the recovered guns were used to terrorise motorists along the highways including Thika Road, Mombasa Road, and Kiambu Road.

The police boss maintained that being in possession of firearms in the country without legally being given is an offence that will be pursued without discrimination.
