Viwandani MCA in Makadara who had been accused of robbing three members of the public, damaging property (water tanks) and stealing of a motorcycle including electronics from a business premise in Donholm has been released on a Sh 1 million bond.

Aaron Kang’ara Wangare (popularly known as “Rooney”), the MCA for Viwandani Ward in Makadara Sub-County, along with his two co-accused were were released with a warning not to attempt to influence intimidate, coerce threatened, reaching out to the victims or visiting the scene as any breach shall lead to the cancellation of release terms.

Rooney, was charged alongside Zablon Kirima Mwangi, an official member of the county government and Kepha Muiyoro Wanjiru, a man said to be a Rooney’s personal assistant.

The trio pleaded not guilty to all the seven accounts, when they appeared before the hon Principal Magistrate Juliana Ndeng’eri who granted them a cash bail of Sh 500,000 and a bond of Sh 1 million.

According to the prosecution, the accused, acting jointly with others still at large, committed a series of offences in the Donholm area of Nairobi County.

On June 26, 2026, they allegedly stormed a business premises and demanded that workers, including toilet cleaners, close down operations.

When Moses Ochieng’ Okumu questioned them, he was roughed up, robbed of a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold smartphone a 450-gram silver chain and cash with the total value stolen from him amounting to approximately Sh170,000.

The group is further accused of robbing Ian Ndirangu Muturi of an Infinix phone worth Sh20,000 and Samuel Njihia Mwaniki of a mobile phone valued at Sh40,000.

In a separate incident, the trio allegedly broke into the shop of Josephat Kibwana Mukamba and stole assorted motorcycle spare parts worth Sh62,523 and a motorcycle valued at Sh120,000.

Two days later, they reportedly stormed another business premises managed by James Kuria Mwaniki, armed with metal rods and machetes. They are claimed to have attacked occupants, injuring them, while demanded to see Mwaniki, who was not present.

In the process, they allegedly damaged two water tanks serving a carwash and the public toilet worth Sh165,000 and stole a desktop CPU tower, a Samsung TV monitor, a DVR recorder, and four rolls of CCTV cable.

They also maliciously damaged and took away outdoor bullet CCTV cameras and a water pump, causing further losses valued at Sh104,568.

Macharia Kenneth, counsel for the defense urged the court to grant lenient bond terms, arguing that the accused was still innocent until proven otherwise.

He noted that they were not a flight risk since they resided within the court’s jurisdiction, and he had briefed them on the need to attend court.

Macharia told the court that Zablon is a Nairobi County official appointed by the Governor, while Kepha serves as personal assistant to the MCA.

State counsel Edsan Papai did not oppose the release, stating that provided the accused maintained peace and refrain from contacting the victims directly or through agents.

The matter is scheduled for hearing on December 16, 2026.
