What began as an ordinary police cell visit quickly exposed a calculated escape plot after vigilant officers at Ruai Police Station intercepted tools concealed in a meal intended for three remanded suspects.
Christine Njoki Gitau, 18, arrived at the station reception requesting to see three men held on charges of robbery with violence and gang rape.
She carried a plate of rice and meat, presenting it as a simple meal for the suspects: Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa and Brian Gatheru.
The three men are in custody for allegedly running an anonymous TikTok account used to lure young women into meetings, after which the victims were gang-raped and robbed of their valuables.
A routine inspection of the food by the cell sentry revealed the true purpose of the delivery. Buried beneath the rice and meat were a pair of pliers and a shear—tools clearly intended to facilitate the suspects’ escape. Gitau was arrested and placed in custody.
Three suspects have been held by in Nairobi’s Ruai area over robbery and gang rape claims and that they lured a woman using online application.
The trio were arrested on August 4, 2026 and were arraigned in court for police to seek more time to complete investigations.
In a miscellaneous application before the Makadara court, a detective from Ruai stated that the complainant M.K.M received a friend request from an application on Titok sometime in July and after chatting for several days with the person, they agreed to meet.
On July 31, 2026, the complaint and the friend agreed to meet at a popular resort in Utawala but when she arrived at the place around 9pm, the said person was not there.
It is alleged that the said friend informed her that he was using a taxi and had developed a puncture and was taking a motorbike to the resort.
After some minutes, it is stated that the said friend arrived and after meeting the complainant, he convinced her that they take a motorcycle to the spot where the taxing had developed the problem saying that it was about 1 kilometer away.
Through a filed affidavit, the court learnt that the compliant declined saying that it was too cold and they should instead take a walk.
On the way, it is stated that she noticed that some people were trailing them while the friend was busy chatting on his phone. Shortly, M.K.M was hit on the face by hard object making her to lose consciousness.
The detective told the court that when she woke up hours later, she found herself surrounded by two men among them the friend she met online.
It alleged that the suspects demanded her PIN and instructed her to call her relatives to send money or she be harmed and later gang-raped her after she had sent them Sh28,500.
The complaint was later rescued by good Samaritans and reported the case that led to the arrest of the three.
The court granted the investigating officer 21 days, stating that his probe include carrying out DNA tests, recording statements, identification parade, retrieval of CCTV footages among others.
