In a heart-pounding showdown on the busy Mombasa Road, suspected car thieves were forced into a dramatic escape, abandoning a gleaming, high-end Mercedes-Benz GLK350d, the epitome of luxury on the highway.

A razor-sharp joint operation unfolded as detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), tracking forensic leads, launched a high-speed pursuit of the stolen vehicle, fitted with fake plates.

With no escape in sight, officers from Imbirikani Police Station swiftly threw up a roadblock in Kajiado South, cornering the suspects in a tense standoff.

Realizing the game was up, the thieves ditched the prized SUV and bolted on foot into the surrounding thickets, vanishing toward Oltiasika and Nosilale villages.

Detectives successfully recovered a high-end Mercedes-Benz reported to have been stolen from a garage in Nairobi’s Spring Valley area.

The unregistered luxury SUV was delivered to the garage on January 30, 2026, for repainting services. It was subsequently discovered missing, along with the facility’s watchman, whose mobile phone was found to be switched off. The disappearance prompted an immediate alert and circulation of the vehicle details as stolen.

In their statement, the DCI informed that meticulous forensic investigation and intelligence analysis, was conducted by detectives who tracked the Mercedes Benz which was traveling along the busy Mombasa Road corridor.

A pursuit was initiated, culminating at a police roadblock established by Imbirikani officers in Kajiado South Sub-County.

“Upon interception, the vehicle’s occupants abandoned it and fled on foot into adjacent thickets, heading in the direction of Oltiasika and Nosilale villages. Efforts to apprehend them were unsuccessful at the scene. Inspection of the recovered vehicle confirmed it matched the reported stolen item.” DCI stated.

Authorities noted that the suspects had fitted a counterfeit front registration plate bearing the number KDR 003N in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
The Mercedes-Benz has been impounded and securely transported back to Nairobi for further forensic examination and processing.

Investigations remain active, with detectives pursuing leads to locate and arrest the suspects on the run.

The DCI has urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities or information that could assist in the ongoing inquiry.
