Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has lauded Kenya police officers who were away in Haiti for a peace mission as heroes who made the country proud.

Murkomen made the remarks while gracing the reception ceremony of 230 officers returning from the Multinational Security Support Mission the National Police College, Embakasi.

The first contingent of the officers who have been away for more than a year landed in the country on December 9 to a heroic reception by top government officials.

“In the beginning they thought that strobe, you are not properly trained you have done a fantastic, fantastic job. I must say on behalf of the ministry, the people of Kenya and the government of Kenya, I must say that we are very, very proud of you,” the CS said

Murkomen said the successful mission in Haiti proves that Kenya has made proper investment in the police service, making it professional in terms of level of training and expertise.

“It is only through this multinational security support mission that we have tested and proven that we are the best trained police officers on earth. Not just in this country, on earth. Having conquered areas that many people tried before and they never succeeded,” Murkomen added

At the same time, he said no one should be ashamed of admiring police officers citing that Kenya’s move to deploy the police officers and their return was testament that they were equal to the task.

“I am here standing here to tell them, here is the evidence, here are the men who have proven that what we say about our police officers is the truth and nothing but the truth,” Murkomen said

Adding that, “We went to Haiti because we believe that we are part of a family of nations and we have a responsibility under international law and under United Nations to make sure that we fight for a common success of humanity,”
