A Kasarani woman linked to giving birth to a baby girl, wrapping her up in two jackets, before dumping her at a dumping site in a polythene bag has been arraigned.
Grace Mwikali Maingi, a mother of four, in the court papers, willfully and unlawfully said to have subjected a one day old baby to cruel punishment on March 20 at Maruirui sub-location.
On the stated day, members of the public near the dumping site heard faint cries of a new born. They got baffled and started searching at the exact point where the cries were coming from.
Unexpectedly, they noticed that the cries emanated from a polythene bag and upon checking it, found a baby with the placenta still attached to it.
Good samaritans rescued the baby and rushed her to a medical facility. Thereafter, a report was made to Maruirui police station. Further investigation revealed the baby was underweight at 1.5kgs.
Following the discovery, the baby’s mother presented herself at the station claiming that the infant was hers.
She was then arrested and placed in custody. In court, she denied the charge. The case was set for mentioning on April 15th for further directives
