A team is investigating an incident where a man was shot dead after allegedly attempting to snatch a firearm from police officers at the main gate of the National Police B Campus in Embakasi, Nairobi.
According to police, the incident occurred at Gate D on Saturday at approximately 6:57 am, when an unidentified adult male approached officers manning the entrance and allegedly tried to forcibly seize one of their firearms.
During the confrontation, the man reportedly stabbed the General Service Unit police constable in the neck, seriously injuring him, police said.
The other officers present responded by shooting the assailant in the head.
He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The injured officer was rushed to Reale Hospital before being referred to Modern Komarock Hospital for further treatment.
The scene was processed and documented by the Embakasi Crime Scene Investigation team, while the deceased’s body was moved to Nairobi Funeral Home pending identification and further investigations.
The circumstances surrounding the man’s actions and the motive for the alleged attack remain under investigation, police said on Monday.
Police said they were profiling the said assailant for more information on him. His motives were not immediately known.
Such incidents are rare. Police said they want to know more on the man’s motives.
