As country is still reflecting how teacher Albert Ojwang died in Central Police Station another a similar case has occurred; this time round at Muthaiga police cells.
The Muthaiga case happened on the night of August 1, 2026 when a boda boda rider, Eric Otieno was arrested and detained.
It is alleged that Otieno was beaten that night by police officers but died a day later in case that has left his family and friends in shock.
A postmoterm conducted on August 4, 2026 revealed that Otieno died of a massive internal hemorrhage in the abdomen due to injury to organs.
“This was due to trauma to the abdomen, the spleen was ruptured and also part of the bowel was also injured orchestrating internal bleeding,” patholpgost Bernard Midia said
Otieno’s family claim he was arrested
around KCA university where police usually collect bribes from riders who make a wrong turn and accused of preparation to commit a felony.
It however remains a mystery why he was subjected to beatings in the police cells resulting to his death.
“He was escorted and taken to the station, that evening, he called us saying begging us to raise Sh10, 000 because he was in pain after being assaulted by police officers,” one of his brothers said
“He told us that the officers beat him using rungu and by the time we were going to visit him, he was unable to stand up,”
It is claimed that when Otieno was released to the family on Sunday, he vomited blood and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
