More than a week since a student was allegedly pushed to death from a moving matatu belonging to Nicco Sacco, its crew are still on the run.

Eugene Mutuku, a Kenya Medical Training College Student in Yatta died after falling under unclear circumstances on June 6, 2026 in matatu that was headed towards the city around Safari Park stretch.

It is alleged that there was disagreement between the student and the matatu crew over fare before the tragic fall.

After the incident, it is reported that the crew proceeded towards the city centre but abandoned the bus around the Kariokor area and both went underground.

On Friday (June 12), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revoked Nicco Sacco operation license citing that its management had failed to take control of their fleet including safety measures.

“The Authority observed that the Sacco’s officials and management have lost control of the operation of their fleet, lack adequate safety protocols, and have not demonstrated any efforts to address major safety concerns,” NTSA the stated

The Authority also highlighted that vehicles operating under the Sacco are unsafe and pose a danger to road users.

“For these reasons, the Authority has resolved to revoke Nicco Movers 1 Sacco’s operator license and to cease operation with immediate effect,” NTSA stated

Adding, “Law enforcement officers are required to impound any Nicco Movers 1 Sacco vehicles found operating contrary to the revocation,”
