A family in Kibera is grappling with shock and pain after their kin was attacked with boiling beans leaving her with serious wounds on her chest, down to her thighs.
In Gatwikira area within Kibra constituency in Nairobi, Maureen Matsili, a single mother of four, was allegedly assaulted and severely burned with boiling beans on May 18, 2026, in an incident reportedly linked to her political stance.
Matsili, who is currently admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital with serious burns, is said to have been attacked by a person known to her. He is yet to be arrested.
The assault, as reported by Citizen Tv, allegedly stemmed from her consistent chanting of the “two-term” slogan in support of the Kenya Kwanza administration and President William Ruto’s potential second term, something which seemed not to have not sat well with the attacker.
From her hospital bed, Maurine lamented that her suffering were attributed to her “two term” slogan support for president William Ruto’s come back ahead of 2027 general election.
The victim’s sister, Lilian Kakuli, described how a confrontation escalated when the suspect allegedly went to a nearby food kiosk, obtained a container of boiling beans, and poured it on Matsili.
” Matatus are grounded because of fuel rise and you here telling us Two Term” the assailant claimed before pouring the boiling beans on her before taking flight. She sustained severe burns to multiple parts of her body, including her chest, stomach, thighs, and private areas.
The family members said that severity of burns on her navel was so intense compared to other parts. The family has since reported the case to authorities and probe launched.
Concerned members of the public have urged the government to address the issue of political intolerance in the area as well as in the entire country warning that continued political violence could affect more people.
This happens just two weeks after a car belonging to an MCA aspirant was burned after a UDA sticker was found in her car. In another reports, police are still investigating the circumstances leading to the death of a gospel singer Rechael Wandetto. A taxi driver linked to the fatal attack is in c0⁰9o8ôrustody.
