A major terror plot was successfully thwarted after a multi-agency security team arrested a suspect and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Garissa–Dadaab Road.
The suspect, identified as Hussein Issa Baraki, drew the attention of officers during a routine patrol in the Haji Aden area. Upon spotting the approaching security team, he attempted to flee into a nearby thicket in a desperate bid to evade capture.
According to the directorate of criminal investigations, security officers promptly gave chase through the dense vegetation and successfully apprehended him.
“He was then escorted back to the precise location where he had first been observed, where officers discovered a concealed IED — clear evidence of a sinister attack in its planning stages”.
In addition to the explosive device, authorities recovered military-style jungle attire, including a jacket and trousers, along with two mobile phones.
The suspect was transported to Garissa Police Station for processing as investigations continue ahead of his court appearance.
The recovered items have been secured as exhibits. This timely intervention underscores the unwavering commitment of Kenya’s security agencies in the ongoing fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to help safeguard communities and prevent future threats.
