Tensions inside the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) exploded into open hostility today as embattled Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna launched a blistering attack on party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga.
This happened during the Linda Mwananchi faction’s parallel “People’s National Delegates Conference” at Ufungamano House.
Speaking to a charged crowd of delegates and supporters, a visibly discontented Sifuna directly addressed Oburu Oginga, telling him to look for a new Secretary-General because he does not deserve the current one.
“Oburu, find your own SG!” Sifuna thundered. “I do not deserve you and you don’t deserve me. Go and get someone else because this one is done with you!”
The outburst came as the Linda Mwananchi faction continued its defiance of the official ODM leadership, which is holding its own Special Delegates Conference at Jamhuri Grounds under Oburu Oginga and Chairperson Gladys Wanga.
Sifuna, who remains the duly elected Secretary-General under the party’s constitution, accused Oburu of attempting to sideline him in favor of a pro-government faction.
“You cannot wake up one morning and decide to discard the people’s choice,” Sifuna continued, his voice rising with anger.
“I was elected by the delegates, not by Oburu or anyone in the ruling coalition. If he thinks he can impose his will, let him go and find his own SG – because this one does not belong to him!”
Sifuna and his allies including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Siaya Governor James Orengo , insist they represent the authentic opposition soul of the party and have rejected any cooperation with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
