Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi is in Moscow , Russia to broker a deal to repatriate Kenyan citizens caught up in Russia – Ukraine war.

CS Mudavadi , is set to meet the Russian foreign counterpart Sergey Lavrov in a high profile diplomatic engagement Monday morning.

The meeting comes a month after CS told Parliament he was flying to the Russian capital to seek repatriation of Kenyans lured by unscrupulous agencies and drafted into the conflict pitting the two neighbors in Europe .

It is estimated that there are over two hundred (200) Kenyans who have been conscripted into Russian Special Military Operations against Ukraine.

According to our sources, many of those conscripted and in the frontline are believed to be former members of the disciplined services, including the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, the National Youth Service, and the Prisons Service.

As of 11th March 2026, the Mission in Moscow had identified a total of two hundred and fifty-two (252) Kenyans involved in the Russian Special Military Operations.

Out of the two hundred and fifty-two (252), forty-four (44) of them have been safely repatriated back home while ten (10) have been reported missing in action/killed in action, thirty-eight (38) are currently hospitalised in various Russian hospitals under restricted access, one hundred and sixty (160) remain actively involved in the Special Military Operations.

In a statement by Russian foreign ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova , CS Mudavadi will discuss in detail practical steps to strengthen political dialogue , mutual partnerships in trade ,economy and humanitarian contacts .

“ During the meeting, the parties will discuss in detail the current state and prospects for the traditionally friendly Russia–Kenya relations, outline practical steps to strengthen political dialogue and contacts in various areas, and to expand mutually beneficial partnership in trade, the economy, and humanitarian contacts,” Said Zakharova in a statement

Adding, “An engaged exchange of views on international and regional issues of mutual interest will take place, with an eye towards establishing better coordination at the UN and other multilateral venues.”

Aside from the bilateral engagement, Mudavadi is expected to vouch for bilateral ties on education sector with the Russian Federation republic in the two day working tour.

“ Kenya acknowledges Russia’s support in advancing education through scholarships and in
strengthening agricultural productivity through fertilizer assistance. “ said a statement by Press Director Jacob Ng’etich at Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Kenya is keen to exploit the opportunity presented by the conflict in the Gulf region by cutting deals with Russian Federation and fill the gap exposed by the raging conflicts in the Middle East .

“There exists a great potential for the export of Kenyan coffee, tea, and floriculture to the Russian market, especially at a time of the Middle East turbulence and beyond.” read a statement from PCS Press Director.
