Gatamaiyu Secondary school in Lari, Kiambu County, has been put on the spot following the death of students on January 22, 2025.

It is alleged that Jimmy Anaro collapsed and died to what has been linked to canning by some teachers in the institution in a case that is currently under police investigations.

Anoro’s parents claimed the manner in which the school communicated after the tragic incident remains questionable.

“I got a call from a teacher that my son was unwell and had been rushed to Kagwe hospital in Limuru, but the person who called instructed me not to go alone,” the mother said in an interview with local media stations

“When we arrived, we were told that he complained of chest pains and was rushed to the hospital, but that is not true because my son has never complained of anything like that before,” she added

There is another narrative that when Anaro asked for permission to seek medical attention, he was denied.

This was complicated by the fact that the school doesn’t have a clinic. Thus, students usually seek medical attention elsewhere.g

‎Lari Deputy police boss Eric Mugaka confirmed that police investigations are ongoing, adding that they were working together with the school management, education officials, and the family to establish what transpired.

The officer said a postmortem will determine the cause of death for justice to be served.
