The National Police Service (NPS) has directed the Internal Affairs Unit to investigate a ruthless attack on unarmed and peaceful young men playing at a pool hall in Nandi Hills.
In a statement delivered today, Friday, January 16, 2026, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja noted that he was aware of the senseless beatings following a review of CCTV footage circulating on social media.
The footage depicts an incident of alleged serious misconduct by police officers at Nandi Hills Police Station in Nandi County.
According to the detective handling the matter, the incident took place on January 10, 2026, at around 11 p.m.
“The NPS is appalled by what has been depicted and unequivocally condemns such barbaric behaviour, which has no place in a civilised society.
The actions portrayed constitute a clear violation of the National Police Service Act, the Code of Conduct for Police Officers, and the fundamental principles of human rights and dignity that the Service is sworn to uphold,” reads the statement in part.
Further, the NPS reiterated that such behaviour is an affront to the dedicated and professional majority of officers who serve with integrity and commitment.
“The Inspector General of the National Police Service has personally gained sight of the galling clip and has ordered a comprehensive and swift investigation into the incident.
The Internal Affairs Unit has three days to finalize their work. Upon conclusion of the investigation, any officer found culpable will be dealt with accordingly.
This will be conducted with the utmost professionalism to establish the full facts and circumstances, and the Service will work closely with other independent institutions to ensure transparency and accountability.”
The National Police Service reassured the public that the isolated incident does not reflect the values, standards, and training of the Service. “To all officers out there, service to the people must at all times remain courteous, respectful, and professional.
Anything short of this shall be dealt with firmly, swiftly, and as per the laws, regulations, and procedures.”
The NPS emphasized that their mission is to serve and protect all Kenyans in a fair, lawful, and professional manner.
