Detectives from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), in collaboration with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), have secured custodial orders from Bomet High Court to hold the four suspect linked to Ksh 40 million TSC recruitment scam in Bomet County.
The suspects from Bomet County are alleged to have orchestrated a sophisticated fraud scheme involving counterfeit TSC appointment letters.
The alleged scam syndicate reportedly defrauded aspiring teachers and other job seekers of over KSh 40 million.
The arrested suspects include David Kemei, the TSC Director for Konoin Sub-County; Rosebella Chepkemoi Korir, a former aspirant for Bomet County Woman Representative; and two teachers, Leonard Siele Towett and Mercy Cherotich.
Their arrests followed an extensive investigation into complaints from victims who were promised employment in exchange for substantial payments.
According to investigations, the syndicate targeted unemployed teachers and members of the public, demanding large sums of money for forged letters purporting to offer permanent and pensionable positions with the TSC.
Many victims resorted to taking loans, selling assets, or depleting their savings to secure what they believed were legitimate job opportunities.
The suspects were presented before the Bomet Law Courts, where authorities secured a 14-day custodial remand to facilitate further inquiries into the matter.
According to the DCI, Evidence suggests the fraudulent network may extend beyond Bomet County, potentially involving operatives in Kericho, Narok, Kisii, and Nyamira counties.
Ongoing efforts are focused on identifying and apprehending additional accomplices linked to the group.
The DCI and TSC have reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating criminal syndicates that prey on vulnerable job seekers and erode trust in public institutions.
Authorities emphasized that genuine TSC recruitment processes are transparent and free of charge.
“The public is advised to exercise caution and verify all employment opportunities exclusively through official TSC channels. The commission does not require any payments for recruitment or appointments.” The state Agency stated.
Individuals who believe they have been victimized by this or similar schemes are encouraged to report the incidents confidentially via the DCI’s toll-free hotline 0800 722 203.
