Konoin Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Brighton Leonard Yegon, has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to probe allegations of bribery involving officers at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The demand follows numerous complaints from residents and teachers in Konoin Constituency, Bomet County, alleging that TSC appointment letters were awarded to the highest bidder with many lamenting that six months down the line they have not received job offers despite them parting with over Sh 400,000

According to Hon. Yegon, popularly known as Lapaataa “affected individuals have come forward with substantial evidence, including M-Pesa transaction records, indicating that significant sums of money were demanded and paid in exchange for securing employment opportunities.”

He strongly condemned the practices, declaring them unacceptable and insisting that employment in the education sector must be based solely on merit, qualifications, and transparent procedures.

“No Kenyan should be subjected to extortion or exploitation while pursuing legitimate career opportunities in public service,” he said.

In response to the serious allegations, Hon. Yegon personally visited the TSC office in Konoin and closed it temporary until the affected teachers are refunded back their money and record the statements with the authorities.

The administrative measure, taken by Hon. Yegon was intended to prevent further potential exploitation of job seekers, safeguard the integrity of the recruitment process, and facilitate a thorough investigation.

The MP has vowed that all unlawfully collected funds must be promptly refunded to the affected individuals, without exception. He was aggrieved by the fact that more than 20 million had been collected by the office.

“Most parents have sold their properties to educate their children and now you want them to sell another land to secure a teaching job” he wondered

“I have formally requested a comprehensive investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and any other relevant independent bodies,” he stated.

“Those found responsible must be held fully accountable under the law. Corruption undermines public trust and has no place in our society; Konoin will not tolerate it as a norm.”

He further urged the national leadership of the TSC to urgently review its recruitment protocols and curb corruption. Additionally, he called out on the politically instigated transfer of the head of schools,.

Hon. Yegon hinted that some of the contested appointment letters may have originated from TSC headquarters in Nairobi, underscoring the need for immediate national-level oversight and reforms to address systemic vulnerabilities.

He reiterated his commitment to upholding integrity and serving public interest over individualism.

“Konoin Constituency remains committed to the principles of integrity, fairness, and justice,” he vowed. “We will continue to protect our residents, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that public institutions serve the common good rather than private interests.”
