Nairobi South B residents have called on the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga to arrest a ‘notorious’ private developer who had grabbed land set aside construction of a modern market.
The residents who talked to journalists expressed their displeasure at the slow pace take by relevant authorities to arrest and prosecute the private developer who happens to be a Member of Parliament.
” We want justice served right away and the only thing to do is for the DPP to be bold enough and arrest the man,” Silas Mugambi who is a member of South B Residents Association said.
Area Member of County Assembly Chege Waithera has also promised to pick up the matter and has given the DPP a 14-day ultimatum to fast track the prosecution of the private developer.
In June 2024, the Ministry of Lands confirmed the piece of land that has for long been under dispute belongs to the public.
The MCA is now questioning the DPP for taking too long despite the glairing evidence and confirmation presented to him by the ministry.
“I am giving him 14 days to do his work promptly by presenting the land grabber to court lest we take alternative action to ensure justice is served,” she said.
While confirming the status of the land, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome promised to ensure those behind the land grabbing are brought to justice.
“One of the land is the one at South B shopping centre which had been grabbed but we are now planning to set up a market since the problem has been sorted from our end,” she said.
The government is now building a market at the open space with over 2,000 traders expected to occupy it.
