A Milimani court has issued a warrant of arrest against a senior bank official in a case involving the bank and former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju
The warrant was issued by Milimani court magistrate Dolphina Alego after
Isaac Nyongesa Okwara, the Chief Security Officer of the East African Development Bank (EADB) failed to attend court for a second time over allegations of giving false information.
He is accused of giving false information to the DCI concerning Tuju on illegal transfer of a mortgaged property and making unlawful transfers.
Alego said in her ruling that she gave the suspect 24 hours to present himself in court.
However his defense counsel led by Senior Counsel Fred Ojiambo said that they had filed an application before the high court to have a stay order not to allow their client being charged by the lower court.
His lawyers said that he was in Uganda where he works from though the prosecution side that Uganda was less than 630 kilometres from Nairobi and they don’t see a reason why he should not come to court and take a plea saying that his action of not attending court when he had summons was contempt of court.
