The long holidays are here, and Kenyan youth are already enjoying every good bit of it.
You will find youth gallivanting on the streets and enjoying every minute of the festivities especially now that the schools have closed.
Thousands of working parents and guardians know all too well just how challenging it can be to take part of your young men and women during school holidays.
The worry is compounded by the fact that during this period the youth in our homes are likely to fall into drugs and substance abuse, crime and other illicit activities that continue to follow the youth like a tail.
This concern is what has inspired Abdulaziz Mohamed popularly known as Abdul Wa Mtaa to start an initiative to help support and engage the youth in Nairobi Westlands constituency.

“I have currently organised a football tournament that in Parklands area of Nairobi where youth from different areas of the capital come to enjoy football, meet and exchange ideas with others youths explore their talent’s full potential,” said Abdul Wa Mtaa.
Adding that: “The youth have very good potential and I believe that they too want to be part of the conversation. They want to be at the table of discussions to contribute to important discussions about their future.”
“Their greatest undoing is the fact that many of them have always taken aback seat when actually they should be part of the conversation. I am happy that I can work with the youth here and the plan is to expand and cover other areas in Nairobi. Let’s give the youth a voice. Let’s engage and support them as much as possible,” said Abdi Wa Mtaa.
“I am focussing on the youth because this festive period there is a lot of free time. Youth from different backgrounds have completed school, others have closed school for the holidays. This is an opportunity to have them come together, share ideas and play together,” said Abdul Wa Mtaa.

Abdul believes that the future of the youth is very bright provided they get good and responsible leaders to show them direction.
“We want to inspire the youth, grow their talent and help them become responsible Kenyans today and in the future. This is an opportunity to give them end of year support and love,” said Abdul Wa Mtaa.

Meanwhile, youths came from as far as Kariobangi and Kamukunji to take part in the Abdul wa Mtaa Tournament.
Javan Otieno from Kariobangi North said he came to play football and engage with other youth.
“I personally come from Kariobangi North. The Abdi Wa Mtaa tournament allows us to interact peacefully and grow our talents without engaging in crime.
Kevin Wekesa from Kamkunji on his part said the it was refreshing to have something keeping the youth busy and occupied during the festive period.
Abdul says his aim is to help hold the hands of Kenyan youths, help them navigate life through different sports and other meaningful activities.
