A woman said to be pregnant and circumcised has been reported to have bled to death, after she and her co-wife were subjected to the cut by the husband.

It is alleged that the man had claimed that they could not cook for their sons who were to undergo the passage rite.

The incident as reported by the Star happened at Kocholwo village in Keiyo South Sub County.

The 34 years old woman is said to have been forced to undergo Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) by her husband.

Keiyo South Deputy county commissioner (DCC) Diana Wekesa, said that the deceased and her co-wife aged 45 were coerced together but the later narrowly escaped death after she was rushed to Kamwosor subcounty Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

Reports have it that the husband had called the ‘expert’ to his home to circumcise them a move that cost the life of the mother of three

All these erupted when the first wife’s sons were set for circumcision this Saturday.

The Family is said to have agreed for the two ladies to undergo the cut. since they considered it a bad omen for uncircumcised women to cook for their circumcised sons.

The DCC confirmed that the husband who took flight following the incident is being sought by police. The rite of passage was conducted in secrecy since it was outlawed in Kenya due to dangerous effects on women’s lives

Residents were urged not to condone such activities by doing away with the practice that has been overtaken by time and adopt new ways of doing things to prevent unnecessary loss of lives.
