Immediately after taking an oath of office as the Second in Command after a long wait, Deputy President Kidiki Kithure’s dairy is fast changing.

Starting a new chapter in life on a new month, Kindki did not leave Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) the same way he had grandly walked in while holding hands with his spouse Dr Joyce Kithure.

The motorcade was instantly doubled and he was now following different commands as they headed to State House for the first assignment to mark Tax Payer’s Day in company of his boss, President Ruto.

Going by an earlier request by the Head of State of assisting him to amplify government projects, DP Kindiki used the event to push Kenyans to pay taxes citing that this was everyone’s duty.

“Every Kenyan has a duty to pay taxes for the development and wellbeing of our Nation. We will build our Country from the resources generated through revenue collected from individuals and corporate entities,” he stated

Kindiki added that to achieve this, it requires continuously innovating and adopting client-friendly revenue mobilisation measures and ensuring prudent management of resources collected from the taxpayers.

The event was also part of launching the 9th Corporate Plan and Application Programming Interface (API) Platform.

On the same day, he witnessed President Ruto assenting to the Sugar Bill 2022 at StateHouse, Nairobi in company of other leaders.

Kindiki’s first day as the second in command seems to have ushered him to busy days ahead to empty full in-tray at Harambee House Annex where he will henceforth be occupying.

Initially, he was based at Harambee House where the Ministry of Interior and Coordination is domiciled but now his new office comes with independence and power.

Some staff who worked with him before say things are already changing and as of Friday (November 1), they were already scouting for where to work from in the palatial office where President Ruto occupied for ten years before crossing over Harambee Avenue.

“We visited the new office yesterday just to see where we will be working from as we wait for further directives from our bosses,” one of the staffer who worked with Kidiki under the Ministry of Interior noted.

Even so, he could not confirm the number of assistants who will cross over to Annex, he said that enough spaces were being created but already they can feel the pressure and joy working with the Second in Command.

“The only thing that has changed is security around him, in fact it is becoming tricky to go closer to him unlike before, but we are not complaining,” he added.

Saturday was another busy second day in office for the Deputy President as he and President Ruto met leadership of Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) in State House, Nairobi.
