Residents of Mukuru slums in Nairobi are now living in fear following the influx of stray dogs in the estate.

They now want Nairobi County to come up with quik solutions to deal with the menace fearing that the mongrels could be carrying deadly diseases.

Tony Juma, one of the residents, said several months now, the number of dogs roaming in the neighbourhood has increased and residents are no longer at ease.

“The dogs are moving in packs mostly during the evening hours, nobody knows where they came from and they have been increasing,” he shares.

Another resident June Akinyi said recently one of the dogs nearly feasted on her two year old child who was playing outside with others.

According to the residents, if left to roam around, the canines could spread rabies.

It is also reported that not long ago one of the dogs attacked an elderly man in the slums but he was rescued on time.

The resident wants the county to dispatch a team to hunt the canines and move them away from the slums adding that dwellers no longer leave their children to play freely.
