NAIROBI Governor Johnson Sakaja is not sitting pretty. For several weeks there have been impeachment talks against him among the Members of County Assembly.
Several MCAs claim that his leadership as the City boss has not been felt and most of the pledges he made during the campaigns have not been fulfilled almost three years now.
Notably, Sakaja has been hanging around Azimio leader Raila Odinga since the talks about his impeachment started in what has been seen as a way of seeking symphaty since Azimio has majority of the MCAs in the Assembly.
Sakaja has since downplayed the talks, defending that he has been working closely with the Azimio people since he included some of them in his cabinet.
But on Saturday (August 7), Sakaja accompanied Raila and his wife Ida odinga to their Bondo backyard for a cultural event.
During the event, Sakaja was seen closely conversing with Ida Odinga in what some politicians now argue that he could be trying to convince them not to support the alleged impeachment at City Hall.
Later, Raila shared on his Facebook Page, “We spent a great afternoon hosting the Sakwa Awendo delegation from Migori at Kango Ka Jaramogi homestead in Bondo, Siaya. It was an incredible cultural exchange and an opportunity to reconnect with the larger Sakwa community,”
For ages some politicians have been running to Ida for s shoulder to lean on and beseech her to pass a message to Raila Odinga during their own time.
While it remains unclear why Sakaja keeps hanging around Odinga’s yet he was elected on UDA ticket, it now remains a matter of wait and see once the Nairobi County Assembly resumes sittings on August 10, 2024.
Not long ago Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai made remarks on his X account touching on Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Alai was throwing a barb at Sakaja for frequently appearing with ODM leader Raila Odinga at functions in the city.
The MCA posted: “Fear of impeachment. In 24 hours, how many times has he met Baba? Motion, charges and evidence are ready.”
The post came at a time when the Governor had been seen in company of the ODM leader on different occasions, including a football match at Nyayo Stadium on July 25.
The post elicited reactions touching on Nairobi politics and formations in Nairobi County Assembly which has a majority of members from the Azimio coalition.
