The Kenya Power has announced that it is upgrading its system targeting pre-paid service customers who use token meters.

The exercise is supposed to kick off from June 12 to the end of August, 2024

To update, customers will receive two codes from Kenya Power that they will use to reset and update their token meters.A reset and an update code.

The 20-digit numbers should be entered into the prepaid meters in the correct sequence: reset code first, followed by the update code.

Once the update is complete, the meter will accept new electricity tokens going forward and will not affect the electricity tariff a customer is on.

However, if the meter update is unsuccessful, the token meter will not accept the generated tokens.

The exercise is free of charge. However, before starting the process, prepaid customers should ensure they load any previously purchased tokens or risk losing them.
